Fire at Okinawa’s Shuri Castle

Early 31 October 2019, a devastating fire has destroyed most of Shuri Castle, 500-year-old world heritage site on the southern island of Okinawa, Japan. The compound’s main, north and south buildings were all destroyed by the fire.

We believe that sudden loss of the world heritage site caused many people including Okinawa residents much pain.

This is the fifth time of the castle burned down following year; 1453, 1660, 1709, and 1945.

Even though humans cannot stop natural disaster such as earthquakes, we can still be committed to daily disaster management in order to minimise the impacts or risks involved in such disasters.

At GMEC, we all share the knowledge that we learnt from visiting Fukuoka Citizens’ Disaster Management Centre and had an in-house group work.

Also, AEDs were installed at Osaka and Tokyo Offices, which counted a total of 5 AEDs.

We will keep raising our awareness of disaster management to be able to effectively and promptly respond to times of emergency.
